Teaching Experience

I have experience teaching courses in broad geographical and chronological surveys, focused upper-division courses on thematic subjects, and methods courses introducing students to history or serving as their capstone research course.  I have a strong background in teaching writing seminars both within the history discipline and in a multidisciplinary content setting.

My courses are innovative, incorporating technology (PowerPoint, blogging, critique of Wikipedia content) or various media (film, graphic novels, material sources) or a range of pedagogical techniques (socratic discussions, lecture, presentations, Reacting to the Past role-play).

I have published two articles on my role as a teacher: an article on a lesson plan, in my first-year seminar on Classical Origins of the Western World, that pairs specific Greek texts to compare character development; and one on a paper assignment I assign in my European Women course, analyzing articles on pre-modern women in the online encyclopedia Wikipedia.  Please see my page on publications for more information.
